This page provides an overall FAQ for FLU-LAB-NET and the community website.  A separate 'How-To' guide is also available which documents how to use various features of the Community Server software used for FLU-LAB-NET.

Q. What is FLU-LAB-NET?

Q. What is FLUTEST?

A. FLU-LAB-NET is also home to FLUTEST. FLUTEST users are included in the FLU-LAB-NET Community. For more information about the FLUTEST initiative visit the following link: www.flu-test.eu

Q. How I do use the FLU-LAB-NET Community website? 

A. For specific details on how to use FLU-LAB-NET Community website it is strongly advised that you have a look at the 'Quick Reference Guide'. The Quick Reference Guide provides an extensive 'How To' list, to access the guide see the Technical Issues 'forum'.

Registration

Q. How do I register?

A. 1. Contact your Member State NRL. 2. The NRL verifies and authorises potential user’s eligibility. -If permission is granted the NRL will request registry details. -The NRL will then contact the CRL. 3. If accepted by the CRL, the FLU-LAB-NET administrator will send an acceptance email to you via the registry details provided by the NRL. The email will include registry details to the FLU-LAB-NET website. 4. You will then be able to use the site.

Q. What if I forget my password/login?

A. Click the 'Sign in' link at the top right of the page, then the 'I forgot my password' link. You will be sent an email which will enable you to reset your password. Users must enter the email address last saved in the 'Private Settings' data field located in the user's 'Profile' area of the site. Unless changed by the user it is likely to be the email address submitted for the initial registration. Please also note that the email address in the 'Private Settings' data field will take preference (ie if different) over another that has been entered into the 'Public Email' data field.

Q. I have a colleague who would like to signup, what is the procedure?

A. We recommend that your colleague contacts their NRL. If eligible they will undergo the registration process as stated above.

User Issues

Q. What facilities does the FLU-LAB-NET Community provide?

A. This site provides a collaboration environment for veterinary and public health laboratories and scientists to discuss Avian Influenza. The forums enable discussions on a variety of topics with different groups of users. The Photos section allows users to share images, and Documents provides file sharing capabilities. For further information, look at the ‘Quick Reference Guide’.

Q. How do I change my details?

A. Once you have signed in, click the 'Edit Profile' link at the top right of the screen to update your email address, personal details, site preferences and so on. Users must enter the email address last saved in the 'Private Settings' data field located in the user's 'Profile' area of the site. Unless changed by the user it is likely to be the email address submitted for the initial registration. Please also note that the email address in the 'Private Settings' data field will take preference (ie if different) over another that has been entered into the 'Public Email' data field.

Q. Are my details visible to all users?

A. Your username and avatar (photo) can only be seen by registered users, i.e. members of the FLU-LAB-NET Community.

Q. How can I receive notifications about new postings?

A. You can choose to receive email notifications when people post replies to your messages by selecting the 'Email me replies' checkbox on the 'options' tab when you create a post. You can also subscribe to a forum using the "Forum Subscriptions" link in the Shortcuts pane on the left of the forum pages.

Q. Can I attach documents such as a PDF or Photo to a thread?

A. Yes you can. When writing a new post, click the ‘options’ tab and then select the Add/Update button. You can either upload a document or link to a document already published on the web.

Q. File size uploads….

A. If you are uploading documents outside of the CRL network, upload speeds are likely to be considerably longer and likely to time out after ten minutes. If you are having difficulty in uploading a given document due to it timing out, contact the site administrator.

Q. What are Forum Subscriptions?

A. When you click the Forum Subscriptions link on the shortcuts pane on the left of the forum pages, the Forum Subscriptions page is displayed, showing which forums you have subscribed to . Click the subscribe link to the right to toggle the option between Yes and No. When you subscribe to a forum you will be emailed with any content changes (new posts and replies to current posts) in the forum. You can also subscribe to a specific topic by toggling the subscription option at the top of the topic.

Q. Can I send messages to other users?

A. You can send private messages and emails to other users (open their profile and select one of the contact options). You can also add other users as friends.

Q. What forums do I have access to?

A. When you go to the Forums home page you will see only the forums to which you have access. Project partners may have access to restricted forums that are not available to the wider community.

Q. I have an idea for FLU-LAB-NET where can I suggest it?

A. Your feedback and ideas are important to the administration team and likely to shape the future of FLU-LAB-NET Community. You can post comments on the ‘Technical Issues' forum or alternatively contact the administrator by emailing flulabnet.admin@vla.defra.gsi.gov.uk

Q. I find a user’s behaviour inappropriate who can I contact?

A. Email the site administrator and state the problem.
